In  flight

as you may have guessed by now, i watch quite a few climate documentaries. recently, i was watching Seaspiracy and i learned that approximately 46 percent of the pacific garbage patch is made of fishing nets. this is hardly the only form of human existence impacting the ocean, but it does relate to the net of fish the bird above is caught in.

you see, even if you feel smaller than the forces you want to work against, there is power to be found in collective action. bait fish (herrings, anchovies, etc.) use this to their advantage, grouping together to appear larger to ward off predators and make it more challenging for the predators to pick off individual fish.

are there organizations near you that are working towards goals you align with? what is an action that you can take as part of a group to make the change you want to see?

one of my favorite phrases in conservation circles is - “think globally, act locally.”
