Devouring
there is a stereo-type of fishermen mounting their best catch onto the wall. the idea with this piece was to replicate that energy, but with the bird having made the catch.
in almost every indigenous culture (namely north american indigenous groups), there is a tradition of using the entire animal that you hunt as a sign of respect for taking that life. if you’re taking a life to mount it on the wall, are you taking more than you need? try to reflect on where you are taking more than you need.
no one is perfect, and i continue to ask myself this question and fall short of where i would like to be. but it’s not about perfection, it’s about the trying.
